Both pieces are Twin XL, 39" x 80", which is the size university residence beds actually are. A standard twin is 39" x 75". Five inches shorter, and the fitted sheet will not stay on the corner.

Percale is the crisp, cool, hotel-feeling weave rather than the silky one. It breathes well in an overheated residence room and it does not cling. Both the sheet set and the mattress pad are built for mattresses up to 16" deep, so they layer properly rather than fighting each other for the corner.
